Frequently Asked Questions
Find answers to common questions about our real estate courses
What is on the South Carolina real estate salesperson exam?
The SC real estate salesperson exam, administered by PSI Services, has 120 questions split into two portions: 80 National questions (agency, contracts, finance, valuation, fair housing, ethics) and 40 State questions (SC license law, SCREC regulations, state-specific forms). You have 4 hours to complete both portions.
How is the SC PSI real estate exam scored?
You must pass both portions of the PSI exam separately. The passing score is 75% on the National portion (60 correct out of 80) and 70% on the State portion (28 correct out of 40). If you fail one portion, you only need to retake that portion, not the whole exam.
How many times can I take the SC real estate exam?
PSI allows unlimited retakes of the SC real estate salesperson exam. Each attempt requires a new exam fee (approximately $63). If you fail the same portion three times in a row, PSI may require additional education before you can retake. Fortune Academy's exam prep is designed to help you pass on the first try.
How should I prepare for the SC PSI real estate exam?
The most effective prep strategy is: (1) complete unlimited practice exams in PSI format, (2) review detailed answer rationales for every missed question, (3) focus extra study on SC-specific topics like SCREC license law and state agency disclosure, and (4) use timed practice tests to build test-day endurance. Fortune Academy's Exam Prep Edge includes all four.
How much does exam prep cost for the SC real estate exam?
Fortune Academy offers SC exam prep in several packages. The full Exam Prep Edge (National + State portions) includes unlimited practice exams, study materials, and instructor support. Pricing is shown on this page — check the package options to the right. Our Money-Back Pass Guarantee refunds your prep fee if you don't pass on the first try.
Do I need exam prep if I already completed pre-licensing?
While the 90-hour pre-licensing course teaches you the content, PSI exam prep focuses specifically on HOW PSI tests that content — question phrasing, trick answer patterns, and time management. Students who take both pre-licensing AND exam prep pass at an 85% first-time rate — significantly higher than those who skip exam prep.
What is PSI and why does SC use them?
PSI Services is a nationally accredited testing company that administers licensing exams for 30+ U.S. states, including South Carolina. SCREC contracts with PSI to deliver the real estate salesperson and broker exams because PSI provides standardized, secure, nationally recognized testing. You can schedule your PSI exam online at candidate.psiexams.com.
Can I take exam prep without completing pre-licensing first?
Yes, but it's not recommended. SCREC requires you to complete the 90-hour pre-licensing education before sitting for the PSI exam. If you're close to your exam date and already completed pre-licensing, Fortune Academy's Exam Prep Edge can sharpen your preparation in 1–3 weeks. If you haven't completed pre-licensing, start there first.
